Well conferences ended tonight....thank goodnes b/c that makes for very long days!!!!  Lots of great stuff going on in 1st grade!!!!  We are studying Me on the Map this month.  We have learned about maps, map keys, landforms, directions, Our Town, Our State, Our Continent & next week we will be learning about the Earth, Moon, Stars & Sun.....to match up to the Common Core.

Here is a picture of some maps we made with map keys.  Then you can here to get your FREE copy of the map key to make your own with your class.

We had our end of 1st Quarter Homework Club Celebration......much fun......PIRATE / TREASURE HUNT!!!!  Each child gets a homework club card to keep for each quarter & it gets punched if they did their homework all quarter, we were easy for the 1st quarter but will get harder as the year goes on.

Prizes they got after the treasure hunt!!!

Card that gets punched every quarter

Last Friday we got to talk to one of our students on Skype who is in California having surgery.  This was a great experience for my students, they all loved it.  I tried to take a picture to show it on our big screen.  Great how he got to talk to each student as he saw them on the video.  It has also been cool to see the pictures of the different places he has visited with his parents while in CA, Pacific Ocean, Redwood Forest, Golden Gate Bridge, old trolly car.

Some random pictures of the classroom.....

We have been talking about beginning, middle & endings of stories.  We read some good picture books with b, m, e & then wrote about the b, m, & e.  This is the paper we used each day.  This week we are writing our own stories with beginning, middle & ending.
